Modest Monday: Pretty Summer Florals

DSCN3531

A couple of weeks ago, I was digging through my closet for something yellow in celebration of my Sweetie’s birthday, as it’s his favorite, especially on redheads. And I had just worn my one yellow dress to church a couple of weeks before. As we were celebrating on Sunday, this presented a dilemma. I ended up finding a few forgotten dresses. I love that! I decided to wear this pretty floral one in a completely different way to help modernize it, but then found out about a couple of the kids I used to take care of as a nanny were getting baptized (YAY!) at their church, so I wore a different dress that would blend in more. I’m an extrovert, but don’t really like to stand out so much in a new situation. ๐Ÿ™‚

And it’s been TOOOOOOO long since my last Modest Monday post!!!

DSCN3529 - Version 2

Soooo, a week later, yesterday, I wore the pretty floral! I belted it so it was shorter and easier to walk and move in, Paired it with my lacy cardi and tan sandals and wore the mock up of the earring my girls wore in our wedding, green heart stone danglers. Of course it was another hot day, so a side braid finished it off.

DSCN3539

So my red hair shows up better. ๐Ÿ™‚ And, a certain someone doesn’t always notice things like flipped over collars. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Lots of fun compliments! ๐Ÿ™‚

Also, because I love his new shirt so much:

And he’s so handsome! ๐Ÿ™‚

Modest Monday: A Modern Victorian

DSCN1978

It has to be time for Modest Monday, right? It’s been far too long. And this post took far too long to post today/night. But iPhoto was fighting me , and WordPress was fighting me, ugh! Had to go and live life and come back later, but here we go. ๐Ÿ™‚

The day after Christmas we attended an “Anne of Green Gables” play, a birthday gift from my in-laws. I LOVE Anne. I AM Anne! We had so much fun!!! Us ladies in the group decided to dress sort of modern-Victorian in honor of the play, and this is the outfit I wore. I also wore it this past, muggy weekend for tea and church. So I have frizzy hair in the photos, but c’est la vie. Nothing I could co about it. ๐Ÿ™‚

DSCN1976

Considering the fact that I’m such a huge Anne fan, and have so much in common with her: red hair, adoption, searching to belong, loss, etc. this is only the second time I’ve been to see the play!

DSCN1980

My Sweetie captured some nice, genuine smiles this time. ๐Ÿ™‚

DSCN1970

Matching cameo necklace and pale pink rose earrings from Etsy complete the vintage look.

And here is an interesting mushroom that popped up in our yard:

Are you an “Anne of Green Gables” fan?

And have you seen my other Anne themed posts HERE,ย  HEREย  and HERE?

Now I need a day for an Anne marathon!! ๐Ÿ˜‰

A Wise Woman Builds Her Home

Modest Monday: Denim Dress Revisited

DSCN0496

This week I wore my favorite (read only) denim dress, but paired with different accessories than I have before. I am not a denim lover, but this dress is so soft and is perfectly cut for my body type.

I found this new jewelry on clearance at Kohl’s, because it’s considered 4th of July jewelry. But you can see how it can be worn anytime. And I have a soft spot for flowers!! ๐Ÿ™‚

DSCN0496

What do you think of that weird hair coming out of the side of my head? It’s always windy here. ๐Ÿ™‚

DSCN0500

I’m also wearing a Cami Secret instead of a tank top or Halftee because it’s too HOT here for ANYTHING extra!! Here’s how I make them work, because they don’t work the way the company sells them.

DSCN0499

The earrings actually came with this necklace:

DSCN0511

But they match both! Yay!!

And then we ended the photo session for a fight. Sigh. That’s real life. Don’t worry, we made up. ๐Ÿ™‚

It happens, as we take these after church when we’re either hungry, tired or both. We like Sunday afternoon naps if we’re home.

Have a great week!!

Modest Monday: Blue and Pink Revisited

DSCN9729

I know I’ve posted this dress before, but I paired it differently this time, so thought it would be okay to sort of repeat. ๐Ÿ™‚

DSCN9734

The cardigan was actually too warm for the day, but it’s getting tricky to wear dresses without repeating outfits all of the time, when it’s so warm the past four or five years especially during this drought. I LOVE the new half tees I found with straps only, as they are so much cooler, but still modest.

DSCN9738

This necklace I found on Etsy is the perfect match to this dress!ย  From Connor Inspires Amy.

DSCN9740

Still so excited to finally be able to wear these earrings after promptly losing one right after I received them as a gift!

DSCN9735

And LOVING these new flower rings from Kohl’s! They came in a set of three, but I prefer to pair them two at a time. ๐Ÿ™‚

Have a great week!!

Modest Monday: Shamrock Edition

DSCN8377

Haha! Two weeks later, here we go! Celebrating and having WordPress issues has made my Irish Day posts take longer, sadly. I like to share photos and the photos weren’t loading any way that I tried! But here we go finally! So, For Modest Monday, here’s what I wore the Sunday before St. Patrick’s Day. It’s a good thing we enjoy the Irish culture year round! ๐Ÿ™‚

I made this little jacket several years agoย  and I still love it. ๐Ÿ™‚

DSCN8374

DSCN8370

I absolutely LOVE these new shoes! They are a Mary Jane style with wee heels and would be great for swing dancing or a more comfortable version of character shoes…says the dancer. ๐Ÿ™‚

DSCN8375

See what I mean?

And this pretty, elegant jewelry was a gift from my in-laws.

DSCN8381

I’ve had this barrette since college…so just a little while…ahem. Haha!

DSCN8390

It was yet another hot day, so my hair was up in a messy bun with the barrette around the hair bands.

Now, how about these brand new rings? The shamrock one is from Avon and the flower is from Kohl’s. I LOVE them!!!

DSCN8386

I’ve been needing a temporary wedding ring as I’ve gained weight and live with hot, swollen fingers a lot in our summery climate. So, I wore this one while I waited for another one to arrive.

I find it fun to dress in festive clothing, do you?

Lord’s Day Scriptures: God’s Beauty and Patience

DaisyGreenBeautiful

It’s difficult to remember sometimes, but God does make beauty out of ugliness, He does give beauty for ashes and He does bring healing from pain. I need this reminder daily! I want to know why now. I want to see healing now, I want to move on to the beauty now. But calls me to hope and believe and be patient and TRUST Him and His promises.

The wonderful thing? He gives us so much beauty all around us in His creation…and even in some of His people. I think He does this to help us see Him and to help encourage us to persevere, while we enjoy these little respites! ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you Lord!

“He has made everything beautiful in His time.” Ecclesiastes 3:11a

Modest Monday: Pink Roses Dress

DSCN8196

Finally, a sort of Modest Monday Post! It’s always tricky getting time for photos as my Sweetie is only available during daylight hours on the weekends. Then we might be too busy or I might not feel well enough, so I’m happy to get a couple of okay photos this week. We traveled to a Valentine’s day wedding over the weekend and barely arrived at our room in time to change and race to the wedding, so no daylight photos. But I decided to go ahead and have my Sweetie take some indoor photos anyway of this gorgeous dress. ๐Ÿ™‚

It was HOT and it turned out that my fringe needed a bit of a trim, so it isn’t laying right. Ah well. C’est la vie.

DSCN8197_2

We celebrated marriage, did some swing dancing and had a refreshing time away. It’s fun witnessing people getting married as a way to celebrate the day for LOVE!! ๐Ÿ™‚

I Love the femininity of this dress, the colors and the flowy-ness. So pretty! I actually bought it on clearance a couple of years ago for $8, but had never shortened the waist to work for me. I’m so glad it finally ready to wear, because I love it! The wedding attire was split, with half wearing their colors of blue and purple, and half wearing pink or red. It was fun and festive! ๐Ÿ™‚

Evie’s Bootbox Dollhouse

DSCN8008

We don’t do much shopping on Black Friday anymore, as the deals aren’t as great and too many stores have tried to take over family time on Thanksgiving, just as they’ve done on Sundays. But there are a few things I shop for on that day, and after a few years of searching, I FINALLY found a new pair of boots to replace my worn out old ones I’d had for longer than I should have. I knew I needed new ones, but it was hard to find what I wanted, and in my size. So many brands of shoes do NOT make my size…ugh! Any way, I finally found a pair and I love them!

Here’s comes the real reason for this post though. You don’t want a big, long post about my boots, right?! ๐Ÿ™‚

Before I throw out things like shoe boxes, I try to decide if there is any reason to keep them, like for storage maybe. So I let it sit as I pondered. (I love words like ponder)! A couple of weeks later I had the idea of making a dollhouse with it for a special 7 year old in my life for Christmas. It sounded like so much fun I couldn’t wait to start brainstorming and collecting items I could turn into furniture and such!! I won’t tell you how many nights I was up too late because I just couldn’t stop working yet. I was having too much fun! ๐Ÿ™‚

So I’ll try to share with you all of the details of how I made everything and created this adorable Bootbox Dollhouse that was a hit!

Here are the basics. Because it was a nice large box, I was able to create four rooms and a pretty front yard with the attached lid.

DSCN8005_2

The front of the house with a front door:

DSCN7873

And a bonus dollie for her:

DSCN7865

She likes toadstools just like me, so I covered her house with this scrapbook paper.

The back of the house:

DSCN7884

The side:

DSCN7888

And I made a clasp with these pretty flowered thumbtacks I found at a Japanese store in LA and a hair band so she can close up the house:

DSCN7889

The yard:

DSCN7893

With flower gardens, grass and a path…

DSCN7902

A shady umbrella, a pool and a kitty cat..

I made the pool from an idea I found online out of four plastic bracelets with some cardboard and paper glued to the bottom.

And a baby carriage from the Dollar Tree. I also cut the “stem” off of a cupcake pick or something from there to use as a toy teddy bear and threw in a horse.

DSCN7907

The kid’s room…

DSCN7939

Plastic bottle lid (I saved a lot of these) as a toy holder with baby bottles, a butterfly and a rocking horse. All party favors from Dollar Tree.

A matchbook dresser covered with washi tape and those same tacks as drawer pulls. I glued beads to the other ends to cover the sharp points.

I didn’t take a photo of it, but I made a mattress out of a foam piece mailed with something, and covered it with a piece of stretchy fabric.

DSCN7940

Furniture from DT and embellished with washi tape. I crocheted a little blanket for the bed and decorated the wall with some clearance flowers from Michael’s I had. Then I threaded a string through two pom poms, made a tiny loop and hung them with a cut off sewing pin.

DSCN7967

DSCN7946

I used a little crocheted throw rug and hung two hats that like to fall down, on more flowered tacks I poked through four tiny squares of cardboard and super glued to the wall. The girl’s hat is from clearance cupcakes I bought just for the hats! The boy’s were found by my Sweetie somewhere.

DSCN7963

The hat hooks. And I call this little bear a balloon!

The bathroom:

DSCN7927

I adore the floor in this room! I glued an aloe vera lid to a white lid to create the toilet, a pizza box spacer with a lid glued to the top for a sink (need to add the faucet I noticed after I gave it to her), a frame sticker for a mirror, another Chinese umbrella for a decoration and a raised yogurt lid glued to a cupcake paper for a bathtub.

DSCN7933

DSCN7921

I poked a flowered tack through the center of a miniature cupcake liner, attached a string and used my same trick to glue it to the ceiling.

DSCN7923

The living room:

DSCN8000

A cute washi tape bunting adorns this room. ๐Ÿ™‚

Another matchbook dresser, a chair made from a jewelry box, a twig heart from my stash and a frame sticker with Elsa added. (Anna’s my favorite, but Elsa’s my buddy’s).

DSCN7997

DSCN7993

The lamp was both challenging and fun. It’s probably my favorite of everything I made!

A flowered tack through another mini cupcake liner, poked into the end of a q-tip, with the other end poked into the rubber base and a cardboard square base is glued on so it stands.

DSCN7991

The chair is a nut cup glued to lid that is decorated with more washi tape. Washi tape is your friend! ๐Ÿ™‚

I created shelves out a of one half of a jewelry box and a couple of cardboard pieces. And my husband brought home two mini frames free from a garage sale. One of these, plus another picture from a Frozen tag became a TV. I wasn’t planning on including a TV, but when I saw the frame, it was too perfect!

DSCN7985

The Kitchen:

DSCN7911

More Dollar Tree furniture decorated with washi tape and a paper doily tablecloth. A brrom in the corner from an old dollhouse stash I found recently. Another sink. A fridge made from jewelry boxes and cardboard, with food stickers glued inside and a stove made from a box covered in paper, withย  sticky velcro circles as the burners. Another internet idea. ( I discovered some ideas when I was nearly finished implementing my own ideas). ๐Ÿ™‚

DSCN8011

I made a cake by gluing two different sized lids together, then gluing some mini pom poms on top. And fused the apron fabric to another piece of fabric so it wouldn’t fray, then cut it out and hung it.

DSCN8012

I had SO much FUN working on this and figuring things out! SO FUN!!

DSCN8006

DSCN8008

Now my 8 year old buddy wants one, so I’m on a search for another bootbox…and the wheels are turning…

Modest Monday: Denim Dress and Green Flowered Cardigan

DSCN7802

Finally…a new Modest Monday post! Actually, we were exhausted yesterday, after arriving home the night before from a little, last minute getaway, directly after a trip to spend Christmas with the in-laws, which was directly after having been sick for a week. So…we arrived home from church, I plopped down on the davenport and my Sweetie says to me, “I thought you were going to have me take outfit photos…” Groan from me. But, if he’s willing, I’ll do it. So we trudged out there and took them in about 10 quick minutes! Even while we tiredly, crankily argued…still, only 10 minutes. Then I took a nap and wasn’t so cranky anymore! :>

I woke up that morning and sat there trying to figure out what to wear and decided to pair my denim dress that I’ve worn here before, with my boots, black Haftee, necklace a friend made for me and one of my favorite cardigans. I found this cardigan at a thrift store years ago and fell in love with the flowers and the color. The wool was a bit too warm after all, even though we’ve finally been having cool days the past week. So I had to take it off. Boo hoo! But at least I’ve been able to wear my hair down lately, after three years of hot weather and having to wear it up. Yay! I am not a big denim fan, but this dress is the perfect cut for me, empire waist, A line and the perfect length for my height. :>

And I feel like maybe you actually can’t see the exhaustion and frustration in my smile…maybe. I was surprised at how well I felt the photos turned out after all of that. We like to make each other laugh!

DSCN7801

I also wore this cardigan for my Anne of Green Gables reenactment post.

Happy Monday and Happy Adjustment back to regular life!

Paper Flower Bouquets

DSCN4749

The past couple of weeks I’ve spent a couple of days making Paper Flower Bouquets with this little sweetie!

Every year around May Day, we like to deliver flowers to her neighbor friends and run! (This was the first year we got caught!! )ย  :>

DSCN4693

DSCN4689

I put together old scrapbook paper, bendy straws, flower shaped post it notes, stickers, a hole punch, and shaped punches and we set to work. We didn’t finish them in one day, so I asked if I should leave the materials for her to finish, but she wanted to make them together. So sweet. : >

DSCN4735

DSCN4742

DSCN4746

I actually like this way better than buying flowers to deliver (it’s harder to find flowers to pick in our California towns), because we get to craft together AND surprise her friends! Win Win!!

DSCN4752

DSCN4750

So much fun! And you can make it work for just about any age with a circle punch and flower shaped post its! We decided not to make the effort to cut out flower shapes as we had each injured our cutting hand.

Don’t wait for May Day, do this activity ANY day!! Everyone involved will be blessed!

Have a blessed day!!
