Modest Monday: Green Lu La Roe Perfect T (Dress?)

dscn3584

Have you heard of Lu La Roe? It’s all the rage here in California and it’s popularity is spreading to other states. I have a few skirts and some leggings, in case it ever cools off enough to wear them. A few weeks ago I finally bought a Perfect T! It turned out this one is extra long, too long for a shirt, too short for a dress. I was stumped at first. Then thought I would add a strip of pretty flowered fabric to the bottom to make it longer. But I wanted to wear it before I had done that, so I wracked my brain for a temporary solution and thought of a black skirt I usually wear for ballet classes. I tried it and the flow workes perfectly with the Perfect T. 🙂

dscn3595

Everyone else thought so too, so this is the way I wear it. I LOVE it! It’s so comfy and the green is so pretty. It kind of fits me like a Carly, which is a new dress in the line.

dscn3624

I also tried some other looks with it, and since I always want to share some more everyday outfits and modest pants ideas, but never get those photos taken, I thought we’d do that today also.

Wear it with a belt and capris!

dscn3617

Didn’t know he was photographing yet, haha! 🙂

Or with jeans and boots!

Happy Monday!

Modest Monday: Welcome Autumn

dscn3462

Happy Autumn! I was going to post last Sunday’s outfit, then remembered these photos and decided to share them since they’re so autumn-looking, and this is the first week of autumn. Not that you would know it where we live. It’s been in the high 80s/low 90s here. UGH!! See my red, hot cheeks? Oh the joys of year round summer. Thankfully, we DID have two night in the 40s last week, before this latest heat wave. That means the house actually cooled off a tiny bit during the night. Yay!!

dscn3464

Anyway, I’m still enjoying the look of autumn at least. Last year we traveled to Illinois. Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio and saw glorious colors! I miss living with those colors!!

dscn3465

It was really fun pairing this dress differently and using the greenery as a prop. 🙂

dscn3458

And I ADORE the details on the bodice!!!! I got some compliments on that at church. 🙂

I love this amber shamrock necklace from my in-laws several years back.

I think yellow (and green) were made for redheads!! 😉

Happy Autumn everyone!!

Modest Monday: Pretty Summer Florals

DSCN3531

A couple of weeks ago, I was digging through my closet for something yellow in celebration of my Sweetie’s birthday, as it’s his favorite, especially on redheads. And I had just worn my one yellow dress to church a couple of weeks before. As we were celebrating on Sunday, this presented a dilemma. I ended up finding a few forgotten dresses. I love that! I decided to wear this pretty floral one in a completely different way to help modernize it, but then found out about a couple of the kids I used to take care of as a nanny were getting baptized (YAY!) at their church, so I wore a different dress that would blend in more. I’m an extrovert, but don’t really like to stand out so much in a new situation. 🙂

And it’s been TOOOOOOO long since my last Modest Monday post!!!

DSCN3529 - Version 2

Soooo, a week later, yesterday, I wore the pretty floral! I belted it so it was shorter and easier to walk and move in, Paired it with my lacy cardi and tan sandals and wore the mock up of the earring my girls wore in our wedding, green heart stone danglers. Of course it was another hot day, so a side braid finished it off.

DSCN3539

So my red hair shows up better. 🙂 And, a certain someone doesn’t always notice things like flipped over collars. 😉

Lots of fun compliments! 🙂

Also, because I love his new shirt so much:

Modest Monday: Green and Black Floral

DSCN2279

It’s Modest Monday time again! Yesterday I wore a repeat dress, but last weekend I wore this pretty, floral dress/skirt. I wear this little cap sleeved black top with absolutely EVERYTHING!!! It adds sleeves and modesty to all sorts of outfits, yet is also thin and cooler than most. The little thrift store cardigan is also the thinnest I’ve found for our hot, sunny weather. I love finally having a couple of longer necklaces like this one from Forever 21. I rarely shop there, but a family friend gave me the tip about their longer necklaces. And I’m still in love with these adorable sandals with the pretty flower. Thanks to the Modest Mom for that Kohl’s tip! I’m wearing earrings that same family  friend friend made for my bridal party 17 years ago. 🙂 Theirs were a little fancier as mine were the prototype. I love that I can wear this outfit ANYWHERE!!! And it’s soooooo super comfy!!! 🙂

This one shows the coloring better.

My Sweetie wanted to capture the mushrooms that have spontaneously sprouted up of course. 🙂

Modest Monday: A Modern Victorian

DSCN1978

It has to be time for Modest Monday, right? It’s been far too long. And this post took far too long to post today/night. But iPhoto was fighting me , and WordPress was fighting me, ugh! Had to go and live life and come back later, but here we go. 🙂

The day after Christmas we attended an “Anne of Green Gables” play, a birthday gift from my in-laws. I LOVE Anne. I AM Anne! We had so much fun!!! Us ladies in the group decided to dress sort of modern-Victorian in honor of the play, and this is the outfit I wore. I also wore it this past, muggy weekend for tea and church. So I have frizzy hair in the photos, but c’est la vie. Nothing I could co about it. 🙂

DSCN1976

Considering the fact that I’m such a huge Anne fan, and have so much in common with her: red hair, adoption, searching to belong, loss, etc. this is only the second time I’ve been to see the play!

DSCN1980

My Sweetie captured some nice, genuine smiles this time. 🙂

DSCN1970

Matching cameo necklace and pale pink rose earrings from Etsy complete the vintage look.

And here is an interesting mushroom that popped up in our yard:

Are you an “Anne of Green Gables” fan?

And have you seen my other Anne themed posts HEREHERE  and HERE?

Now I need a day for an Anne marathon!! 😉

A Wise Woman Builds Her Home

Modest Monday: Football Fan Style

DSCN1352

I’ve never been like everyone else, which led me to much questioning as an adopted child. Although we were all redheads, it was clear that I looked different and had a different personality. It wasn’t until my 4th sister was born when I was 17 1/2 that I felt like someone looked more like me with our round faces and such. Later, I realized my 3rd brother has my personality. He’s 11 years younger.

I’ve always LOVED being feminine, and used to beg my mom, even in first grade, to let me wear dresses instead of pants. I also grew up being taught modesty, just not the reasons for it, except to not distract the boys at school. But no one had to beg me to appreciate my girly-ness. Instead I had to fight hard for it my whole life. And the more years that pass, the more I feel odd for wanting to be feminine, when most are fine dressing far too similar to men. God made me female, why would I want to look like a guy?

One area where it seems almost unforgivable to be feminine is in sports, but I don’t even like wearing t-shirts in my everyday life, so of course I don’t really love wearing them while watching sports. Actually my husband hates me in those sports t-shirts. But I love feeling more connected to my home state, my college and my college friends by watching my alma mater play football while living out of state.

DSCN8448

So first I bought this dress to wear during games with a yellow shirt underneath:

OregonDuckDress

Still sporty, but not so masculine.

But sometimes I need more, so even though I know everyone will think I’m weird, I’m sharing my cute and feminine Oregon Ducks outfit from last Saturday:

DSCN1357

This shirt doesn’t have their name or duck on it, but it’s the right color! And the skirt has both yellow and green in it. BTW: I’m making the Oregon O here. 🙂

DSCN1355

DSCN1349

I like being accepted, but I also like being unique. Sometimes that means I’m the only one I know like me and people think I’m odd. Sometimes I’m okay with that and sometimes I just want to be “normal.” I think we’re all constantly working on being okay with our uniqueness. That’s life! 🙂

DSCN1347

I talk with my hands. And my Sweetie doesn’t always wait until I’m ready when he snaps photos! 🙂

Modest Monday: Toadstool Style and Casual Flowered Outfit

DSCN1125

We’ve just arrived home from a three week vacation, and this sweet Toadstool Area was a fun, surprise find in Middlebury, Indiana at the Krider Gardens. The funny thing is, we debated stopping, as it was a last minute find, and it might mean missing out on other things we planned to do. Then, we parked at the far end of the gardens, which I thought was crazy, since we were just going to take a quick peek. I had to thank my Sweetie for it after we found THIS!! Thanks Sweetie!!

DSCN1160

Because we’re a mushroom/toadstool loving family, especially my husband, his cousin and mom, and myself. We’ve even seen red and mushrooms in the town where we met. They’re REAL!!! But poisonous, so don’t eat them if you find some. Who would want to eat rubbery mushrooms anyway, yech! 🙂

DSCN1122

All this sweetness needs is a little table for tea parties! 🙂

DSCN1121

DSCN1133

This is a casual outfit I wear a lot. I have two different flowered blouses I took on our trip. I like to belt it to shorten it a bit and create more definition. Unfortunately, I decided to take my brown sandals on the trip instead of the black, then ended up wearing more black over the three weeks. Ah well. When we found this little hangout, I thought, “We should take Modest Monday photos here!” So we did. 🙂

DSCN1151

DSCN1148

Then I made my Sweetie pose too, in his new vest from Gohn Bros. an Amish/Mennonite fabric store, also in Middlebury.

My Sweetie is so handsome!

DSCN1153

DSCN1118

I imagine children discovering this sweet spot and feeling miniature and enchanted by it’s sweetness. I felt a bit that way myself. It fit right in with my reading of the Borrowers books. Such a fun little surprise and one of our trip highlights!! I wish I had this in our backyard!! 🙂

Modest Monday: Denim Dress Revisited

DSCN0496

This week I wore my favorite (read only) denim dress, but paired with different accessories than I have before. I am not a denim lover, but this dress is so soft and is perfectly cut for my body type.

I found this new jewelry on clearance at Kohl’s, because it’s considered 4th of July jewelry. But you can see how it can be worn anytime. And I have a soft spot for flowers!! 🙂

DSCN0496

What do you think of that weird hair coming out of the side of my head? It’s always windy here. 🙂

DSCN0500

I’m also wearing a Cami Secret instead of a tank top or Halftee because it’s too HOT here for ANYTHING extra!! Here’s how I make them work, because they don’t work the way the company sells them.

DSCN0499

The earrings actually came with this necklace:

DSCN0511

But they match both! Yay!!

And then we ended the photo session for a fight. Sigh. That’s real life. Don’t worry, we made up. 🙂

It happens, as we take these after church when we’re either hungry, tired or both. We like Sunday afternoon naps if we’re home.

Have a great week!!

Modest Monday: LuLaRoe Peach Flowers

DSCN0159

We took photos two weeks in a row! Yay us!! I won’t say we weren’t fighting just before taking these, but then we made each other laugh for the genuine smiles. 🙂

THIS is the gorgeous LuLaRoe I bought last week, my newest piece. At the time I was torn between this and a lace navy one. And I don’t even like navy, but it fit like a dream! This one fit nearly as well, and it’s so pretty and so me! I love it even more a week later than the night I bought it!  🙂

DSCN0172

DSCN0176

More pictures for details and coloring, and because I’m promoting LuLaRoe. 🙂

DSCN0178

DSCN0157

The tree makes it more fun, except that it was covered in ants!

DSCN0165

It was actually too hot for even this little cardigan, but I don’t wear tanks alone, so I suffered through.

DSCN0156

And here’s my pretty jewelry. You can’t see the turquoise in the skirt from these photos, but it’s there. And wouldn’t you know it, I found the missing, matching earrings TODAY! Haha! C’est la vie!

DSCN0168_2

Have a great week everyone!!

And here’s a little more about LuLaRoe.

Modest Monday: LuLaRoe – Turquoise Flowers

DSCN0056_2

Last week I went to a LuLaRoe party. Have you heard of LuLaRoe? It’s a California based clothing company that is gaining popularity, even in other states. It’s like Tupperware in that you go to a party, see and try on clothes and buy what you love. The prices are a little higher than we would normally spend on clothes, but if I find something I love and know I’ll wear a lot, I’ll splurge. Especially in the case of last week, where I know I’m also contributing to the ministries of these ladies. Finding things in my size, and flowered instead of geometric can be tricky, but I have found a few, including this, my first purchase about a year ago. Why am I posting about this one, and not my brand new one, you ask? Because I told a friend who bought one similar to this one that night, that I would wear mine if she wore hers and we could be twinsies! Of course I forgot that we go to two different services. C’est la vie, I needed to blog this one anyway! 🙂

DSCN0055_2

Pretty!! Pretty!! This is a maxi skirt, but I like to wear it high because I’m short. Or sometimes I fold the waist a couple of times. It’s what gives it that fuller look. I constantly get asked what skirt it is, even by the ones with the business. 🙂

DSCN0053

This one is for the oak tree. 🙂

DSCN0056_2_3

DSCN0156_2

A close up from a different day of my pretty, Etsy necklace. I couldn’t find the matching earrings. 😦

DSCN9772_2

And my pretty ring from a different day.

Have you heard of LuLaRoe? Do you own any pieces? One of the best things about them is that most of the pieces are very MODEST. It can be so difficult when shopping these days, so…PERFECT!!!
