Seeing Our Courtship Days Through the Eyes of Family

DSCN3730

Ever since the first Valentine’s Day card, we’ve had a mouse and mushroom theme, my Sweetie and I!

We spent the weekend with family and had a FABULOUS time!! It’s always so fun to get together and this time we all met up at my in-laws in Southern California and it felt so much like our old Christmas gatherings before the cousins married and spent Christmases elsewhere. We were all feeling nostalgic and happy! A wonderful time together!

The “young-ins” tooled around Downtown Disney on Saturday night, making it seem even more like our old gatherings where we’d ALL troupe off to Disneyland, amidst all of the beautiful Christmas decorations. The highlights of the night were the Swing Dancers and the Beignets! I love hanging out with people who love the same things I do! :> We ALL wanted to watch those dancers forever, not just THIS dancer! They also loved the Rainforest Cafe.

It was dark, but we were respectful and didn’t use the flash. This is with my phone using Instagram.

I think I’ve said this before, but my cousin-in-law and I are more like sisters and best friends, and she and my Sweetie have always been close. I became friends with her before I even knew he existed! She’s just great, which makes her a perfect person to take a vacation with, which we are!! We are going to have so much fun! Yay! :> ANYWAY, we both LOVE taking photos and it’s great to meander around with someone who understands that, because some people get kind of irritated by it. We both did a lot of Instagramming over the weekend! We felt better once we saw that we were both going overboard with it!!

On Sunday. at one point, the 4 ladies ended up in the living room chatting without the men, and somehow we were talking about the days after I met my Sweetie, but we weren’t committed to each other yet. My Sweetie’s Aunt told me a couple of things I didn’t remember, my cousin-in-law had an insight I never wondered if she had, yet it fascinated me just the same and we reminisced about how I needed her to meet my Sweetie and she needed us to get the job in the shop her future husband came into to meet her! Life and connections are so fascinating! I felt like that was a fun and special time together, just hours before we had to head for home. Such sweet people and moments shared. Little treasures from God to us. :>

A perfect match!

I thoroughly enjoyed that moment, but I don’t know if I would have shared it here or just allowed it to slip away as life closes in again. But when I saw Kendra’s email reminder about Matrimonial Monday at A Proverbs 31 Wife, I knew this was a great moment to share. And sharing helps me remember for myself. Writing things down keeps them fresher and more clear in our minds, and helps ensure that we’ll have them even when loved ones are gone. It’s so much fun hearing about certain events from many different viewpoints. Everyone sees something the others miss!! These are the joys of FAMILY…and MARRIAGE!!

Have you learned new things from your family about other family members or you and your sweetie? What makes your family special?

More Tillamook Products

I found more Tillamook  products at our Target. Whoo Hoo!!!! Maybe they’re finally trickling down to our state…yay! There I was, just minding my own business, when bam, there they were! Can you tell that I’m excited? I may get tired of sweating day after day, but this little taste of home is so comforting to this transplanted Oregonian. Welcome to California Tillamook!

The icing on the cake? I did some research after our vacation, and found a WinCo in Long Beach. Saturday after Women of Faith in Aneheim, we introduced the in-laws to this great store, and for the first time  my father-in-law was the last one out of a store!! :>  He never understood what we were raving about, because the only thing we had to compare it to was Food for Less…NO COMPARISON at all! WinCo has such better food and prices…and tons of bulk items!

Such yummy comforts of home!

Yummy Tillamook Ice Cream

On the heels of our 2 week trip to Oregon, I decided do a little research again and see if maybe someone was finally selling Tillamook ice cream here. I was happily surprised to discover that Von’s carries it now!! I couldn’t contain my excitement over this wonderful news! I waited 4 long years to enjoy THE BEST ice cream while we were in Oregon, and then I discover the treasure is finally available in my own “backyard!” Yay!!!!

Tillamook is my favorite brand and I’ve been eating it my whole life. My family would camp for 10 days EVERY summer at Cape Lookout, which is just outside of Tillamook in Oregon, with all of the relatives. We would have adjoining camp sites and have a great time together. EVERY trip also meant a trek in to the Tillamook Cheese Factory and the Pioneer Museum. and yummy Tillamook ice cream, of course.

My favorite flavor is Mint Chocolate Chip. What  makes it better? That creamy Tillamook yumminess, AND their BIG CHUNKS of chocolate!!!  Mmmmmmmmmm!! There is NOTHING else like it!

My second favorite is Brown Cow, but now they call it Udderly Chocolate. Milk chocolate, white chocolate and chocolate chips. I don’t even usually like white chocolate. but yummm!

Our local Von’s only had this one, but the checker works at both local stores and offered to order my favorite for our store! Thanks! I just picked it up today…yay!!

What’s your favorite ice cream flavor/brand?

Oregon…Part 1

I’ve sneaked away from friends and family to finally steal a few minutes to myself and write. It’s been 4 years since we’ve been “home” to Oregon (except for a whirlwind trip in March to celebrate the in-laws 50th anniversary). And here we are! Since we’ve lived in California for 8 years now, the real “landmark moment that we’re getting closer to green and Oregon is always Mt. Shasta for me ( and FORESTS), and this year I was finally able to snap the shots I always dream of.

Shasta also reminds me of drinking Shasta pop as a kid, and the old commercial, “I wanna pop, pop, pop, pop. I wanna Shhhasta!” So I sing it every time we pass through the town. And yes, I know we live in the land of “soda” now, but it will still always be pop to me!

I have MANY more photos to come, so stay tuned…
